Can I work on the new site while my current site remains active?

You can! As long as your existing domain is connected to your existing website, that's what people will see when they visit your website. This means your existing website will remain active as you work on your new website. 

When you're ready to publish the new website, refer to your template Start-Up Guide for help with transferring your domain. Once your domain is connected to the new website, that's what people will see.
